Today is National Close the Gap Day.
This day aims to close the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and non-Indigenous Australians.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples have some of the poorest health outcomes of any group of people in the world.
On average, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples die 10 years younger than other Australians. In addition, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples experience other chronic conditions such as diabetes sometimes as high as two times the rate of non-indigenous people.
The Close the Gap campaign aims to achieve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equality by 2030.
There are some simple things we can all do to help:
- Sign the Close the Gap Pledge
- Make a donation
- Educate yourself
- Listen and share stories from First Nations People on social media
- Write to your local MP
We have already started by signing the pledge as a Club!
