NFNL Lifeline Northern Melbourne Round

Tonight we kick off the inaugural NFNL and Lifeline Northern Melbourne Round.

The purpose is to raise funds and awareness of Lifeline Northern Melbourne and the phenomenal work they do in the community supporting people in need.

Lifeline Northern Melbourne is a non-profit organisation that provides free, 24-hour telephone crisis support service in Australia to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Each year, over one million Australians reach out to Lifeline for support and Lifelines crisis support line receives a call every 30 seconds.

To mark this Round, Lifeline and the NFNL ask that each member of the NFNL community continue to lookout for one another.

Remember that it’s it’s okay to not be okay. At St Mary’s we are part of a community; you are never alone.

If you need support, reach out to a team mate, coach, team manager or any other supporter or volunteer you feel comfortable to speak with.

For further support, you can contact Lifeline 24/7 via phone, text or online chat.

Message from the President: Tackling Road Safety

Hi everyone,

This weekend we will ‘band together’ to support the AFL Victoria and TAC Victoria Road Safety Round, donning blue armbands to honour the lives touched by road trauma and promote road safety in our community.

Many factors can contribute to unsafe driving. However, distracted driving a major contributor to road trauma. Shockingly, studies have shown that drivers on their phones are 10 times more likely to be involved in an accident.

Remember, distractions extend beyond mobile phones. You could be distracted by your GPS, eating a snack, a smartwatch, or even a passenger. Just two second with your eyes off the road doubles your risk of crashing. To put it in perspective at 50km p/h, you would travel 28 metres in 2 seconds – roughly the length of a cricket pitch.

If you’re caught using a phone or other device, you’ll be fined $555 and lose four demerit points. For a p-plater that means only one demerit point left. So don’t risk it – follow TAC’s safety tips including turning on do not disturb or putting your phone and other devices out of reach while driving.

We support TAC’s vision of no deaths or serious injuries on our roads. That’s why I urge each and every one of you actively participate in the TAC Club Reward Road Safety initiatives this year by:

Let’s work together to ensure the safety of ourselves, our loved ones, and everyone on the road. Remember, every action you take for road safety will help us earn up to $10,000 that we can invest into our Club.

Stay safe,
Mark Stanley
Club President

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2023

Today marks the start of NAIDOC Week.

This year the theme is ‘For Our Elders.’

Across every generation, Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.

They are cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and our loved ones.

Our loved ones who pick us up in our low moments and celebrate us in our high ones. Who cook us a feed to comfort us and pull us into line, when we need them too.

They guide generations and pave the way for us to take the paths we can take today.

We pay our respects to the Elders we’ve lost and to those who continue fighting across all our Nations and we pay homage to them.

In the spirit of NAIDOC Week, we encourage everyone to take a look at the ways to get involved below and encourage reconciliation.
