We’re so proud that AFL Victoria recognised Livio Basile as part of their Local Legends campaign. Livio, a true legend of the club, has dedicated over three decades to various roles, including trainer, boundary umpire, tribunal player advocate, and Junior Club President.
One of Livio’s most significant contributions was establishing St Mary’s first U19 team, which laid the foundation for the senior club. In honor of his unwavering dedication, the club has named an award after him.
St Mary’s Senior FNC and St Mary’s Greensborough Junior Football Club are thrilled to welcome the next generation of players to Senior Football!
On Thursday 1 August, all Colts players are invited to join our under 19s for a training session. After the session, you’ll hear from the U19s coach Trevor Little and Senior Men’s Coach Fab Carelli. Plus, stick around for a meal with your mates for just $12.
The full schedule is below: 5:30 – 6:30pm: Colts & U19s training session 6:45pm – 7:15pm: Welcome from the Senior Committee & presentation from Trevor Little and Fab Carelli 7:30pm onwards: Option to stay for a meal and team selection
This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about senior footy and get acquainted with the senior club.
This weekend, we will again ‘band together’ to support the AFL Victoria and TAC Victoria Road Safety Round, donning blue armbands to honour the lives touched by road trauma and promote road safety in our community.
Our focus this year is on distracted driving. Drivers are 10 times more at risk of crashing if they are texting, browsing, or emailing on their mobile phones. Alarming statistics show that one-third of drivers admit to using their phone illegally while driving, and another third of pedestrians admit to looking at their phone while crossing the road.
Distractions extend beyond mobile phones and include GPS devices, passengers, and even eating, all of which can take your attention away from the road. Taking your eyes off the road for just two seconds doubles your crash risk. At 50 km/h, you will travel 28 meters in those two seconds, approximately the length of a cricket pitch.
The penalty for using your mobile device while driving is a $577 fine and four demerit points. However, the real risk is putting yourself and others at harm.
That’s why we are encouraging everyone to sign our pledge to turn on the ‘Do Not Disturb While Driving’ function on their phones. By supporting road safety, you can help our club earn up to $10,000. Let’s all stay focused and safe on the roads!
Stay safe, Mark Stanley St Mary’s Seniors Football & Netball Club President

Today marks the start of NAIDOC Week, an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
This year’s theme – Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud – celebrates the unyielding spirit of our communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.
Here’s some ideas to get you started: – Engage with local Traditional Owners and your local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community – Read a book by a First Nations author – Watch a television show or movie made by a First Nations filmmaker.
Through our collective efforts, we can forge a future where the stories, traditions, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are cherished and celebrated, enriching the fabric of the nation with the oldest living culture in the world.
We’re so pleased that AFL Victoria have recognised Liz Mace as a Local Legend for her tireless work behind the scenes at the St Mary’s.
Liz and her family joined the St Mary’s Junior Football Club in 1994, finding it the perfect place for their sons to start their football journeys. Over the years, Liz and her husband Wayne took on numerous roles, from administrative duties to organising social events.
Despite her sons retiring from footy, Liz extended her commitment to the newly established St Mary’s Senior Club, contributing significantly to its growth. Among her many roles, her standout contribution has been Thursday night dinners, along with her daughter Brenna. Wayne also continues to support the club by managing the Blue Oyster Can Bar at every home game.
AFL Victoria’s Local Legends initiative celebrates the vital role of volunteers like Liz, who ensure community football clubs thrive.
