Celebrating our new life members

We are incredibly proud to announce Gerry and Sharon O’Hara as the newest Life Members of St Mary’s Senior Football & Netball Club.

Since the 1980s, Gerry and Sharon have been the heartbeat of both our Junior and Senior clubs. Their contribution over four decades has shaped the spirit and culture of St Mary’s, a legacy that now earns them the highest recognition our club can offer.

Gerry’s impact is unmatched. He’s the only recipient of Junior Club Legend status and the namesake of the Gerry O’Hara Medal. Over the years, he’s filled countless roles — from Club President, Coach, Trainer, and Boundary Umpire, to the legendary BBQ master.

In 2009, Gerry became a Foundation Member of the Senior Club and served as Head Trainer, devoting countless hours to player development. Despite health challenges limiting his on-field involvement, he continued mentoring trainers and later served as Vice President in 2011 and President in 2012.

While Gerry led from the front, Sharon O’Hara was the constant driving force behind the scenes. From managing the canteen and coordinating social events to fundraising and logistics, her energy and commitment were vital.

Together, Gerry and Sharon were instrumental in forming the Senior Club. Their deep roots in the Junior Club and respected standing in the community provided the crucial support needed in those early days.

As Founding Senior Club President Tom Chapman reflects:

“In those early days, having Gerry and Sharon onboard gave the club an immediate sense of credibility and connection. People trusted them – their involvement reassured parents, players, and supporters that we were building something solid. Their presence gave us momentum, but more importantly, it gave us belief.”

Congratulations and thank you to two true club legends.
